Discernment
Called to Grow. Sent to Serve. Open to Share.
A Time of Discernment
Discernment is prayerful reflection and discussion before making a major decision. Church of the Holy Nativity (CHN) is faced with making a major decision. We still have something from our vision with a previous rector and a previous Capital Campaign Drive: Accessibility. With a new rector comes a new, or energized, vision.
Additionally, since the last Capital Campaign, 47 new households, or 75 adult parishioners, have joined the church. Its time for all of us to reflect on who God is calling us to be and where accessibility lies within this vision.
A Discernment Committee was formed to guide the parish through this reflection and discussion process. Its members are Mimi Johnson, chair; Jackie Price, communications; Bob Capulli, buildings and grounds; Kim Coogan-Rodgers, finance; Chris Nelson, small groups; Elizabeth Reis, recorder; Christine Massie, outgoing warden; Jeff Dillon and Sheree Capulli, wardens; and Aimee Delevett, rector.
Our plan for visioning for the future is simple. Share with each other. Listen for the voice of God in the voice of our community. Hear everyone. Our timeline includes:
- March - Small-group meetings with parishioners
- April/May Where Do We Go From Here, reporting back to the whole parish about what was heard and what the committee believes we are called to do
- May Mission to Mortar meetings to look at our ministry goals and determine if facility/space issues exist surrounding them, and begin the process of looking for smart ways to address these issues
As we move forward in fulfilling our mission and ministry in this part of Gods Kingdom, we welcome and in fact need your thoughts, your insights and your prayers. All parishioners are encouraged to attend these events, talk with committee members, see the bulletin board in the Ford Room and pray. We look forward to hearing from each of you.
