Millennium Development Goals
At the start of the new millennium, leaders from 191 nations, including the United States, agreed on a plan to cut extreme global poverty in half by 2015. Together, they created the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). In 2006, the 75th General Convention made the MDGs a top mission priority by devoting a portion of the Episcopal Church's budget to address them. In 2007, Episcopal Relief and Development, in partnership with the Jubilee Ministries and the Executive Council, launched the MDG Inspiration Fund to inspire Episcopalians to reduce global poverty.
